Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the run away hit of the holiday season. The main reason for its success is the incredibly deep and addicting online multiplayer. Competition in the game is fierce and beginners will most likely get slaughtered. However, they can succeed if they play their cards right. Here are some tips that will help you get started in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Play the single player campaign mode
Although going straight to the online multiplayer mode is tempting, you will get crushed without any experience. Fortunately, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has a worthwhile single player campaign where you can hone you skills and get comfortable with the game’s mechanics. You don’t need to finish the campaign (although it is quite short) as long as you feel confident about your skill.
Lag is killer for online games, especially for first-person shooters. If you have lag in the game, pretty much all your bullets will miss while you become target practice for your opponents. If your connection is weak, get a better one. Otherwise, you won’t have a chance online.
Go with assault rifles and machines guns
In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, you will miss you shot most of the time. Fortunately, it only takes a handful of bullets to kill an opponent. Based on those circumstances, using fully and semi-automatics will be the most effective weapons in the game.
Moreover, most of the kills you will get will be from the medium to long range. So choosing a weapon with good range will also be important. Assault rifles, sub machine guns and light machine guns are highly recommended. Shotguns are useless since you will most likely get shot to death before even getting close to your opponent. Sniper rifles are good for big outdoor areas but they have a high learning curve.
Some of the best perks (Frag*3, UAV Jammer, Matrydom, etc) won’t be available until you reach higher levels. Although there are still some pretty good beginner perks like Stopping Power (which increased your bullet damage), it is best to level up quickly to get the super effective ones.
Although the previous rules give you specific instructions, don’t be afraid to experiment on different perks, weapons and weapon attachments. In fact, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare rewards you with extra XP by completing certain weapon challenges. So go out and experiment with different combination to see what suits your style the best.
Be prepared at the moment of respawn
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has some rather cheap respawn points that often than put you in the middle of a fire fight. To give yourself a fighting chance, always be ready to shoot the moment you respond. You basically have five seconds from your death to rebirth to gather yourself and get ready.
Learning how to use grenades (particularly frag grenades) in essential because grenades are everywhere in the game. If you don’t “cook” a grenade, it will be easy to dodge since it will take a couple of seconds to explode. To cook one, simply hold down on the grenade button for a few seconds before letting it go to throw it. Your opponents will have little chance of dodging it.
Although it is immensely satisfying to knife your opponent, you can also miss and leave yourself exposed. Nothing can be as more frustrating than dying after you whiffed on your knife attack. Do yourself a favor and just shoot them with you gun; it only takes a couple of bullets.
Know the maps
The maps in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is so well designed that there is no real place to hide. To be successful, you must know the most and least traveled routes so you can sneak around undetected while knowing where your enemies are. This requires a lot of trial and error, but mastering this tactic is worth it.
Slow and steady
Running and gunning will do you no good; in fact, you can even shoot while running. So it’s best to go at it slow and aim down the sight with your gun as much as possible. Be especially careful when turning around a corner. Take cover often but also make sure to keep moving since your enemies can sneak up on you if you stay in one place too long. You can run, just make sure the coast is clear (more times than not, it won’t be).
Hopefully, these tips will help you go a long way to being a dominant force in the ultra competitive Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare online multiplayer. Good luck!
