Guide to Playing Special Infected in Left 4 Dead 2
In Left 4 Dead 2, there are 7 playable special infected: the Boomer, Charger, Hunter, Jockey, Smoker, Spitter, and the tank.
Playing the Boomer:
The Boomer is mainly considered a kamikaze, a suicide bomber. Wait around in a corner and ambush the survivors when they arrive into your vicinity. When you die, your body will explode into vomit. Use this to your advantage. When you have already vomit on the survivors, stay close to them and when one kills you, the explosion of the body will soak them in barf.
Playing the Charger:
The charger was originally introduced to Left 4 Dead 2 to make long corridors unsafe for camping. In the first L4d when there was a horde of common infected attacking the survivors, they would camp in a long corridor, one protecting the front and one on the back. When the survivors walks into these such spots, it’s your job to charge and ram through all of them. Another strategy is to hide behind a corner. When they come, charge and carry the survivor far away from the other three.
Playing the Hunter:
In my experience, the hunter is the hardest special infected to play. This infected is an ambush unit. Hide somewhere for the perfect time to strike or if a lone survivor is far from the rest of the group. When there is chaos or hordes of common infected, that’s your time to strike.
Playing the Jockey:
The Jockey is the only special infected where you can control where survivors move. This is also an ambush unit. In the midst of all the confusion, grab one of the survivors and lead him off far from the pack. Additionally, lead the survivor off bridges, high places, and into spitter goo for more damage.
Playing the Spitter:
The spitter is my personal favorite. Use the spitter to support your teammates. Hide on rooftops and high places. When it seems the survivors are camping or staying in one spot, spit on the ground below them and try to inflict damage on all of them. When possible, spit on incapacitated survivors. When you spit on them, they take damage the whole possible time the spit’s there. There’s a chance that they might die because their teammates are unwilling to risk their own health to rescue a friend when there’s spit around him/her.
Playing the Tank:
The tank is the toughest and strongest of all the special infected. You have a chance to incapacitate or kill all of the survivors at once. Well for this special infected just go in and deal as much damage as you can. If you’re one of the ambush infected, when the tank is attacking, it’s the best time to strike.
Even if you’re the best player, teamwork is the most essential part of any strategy. Discuss, talk, and collaborate with your fellow teammates to formulate a plan. Get a microphone if you don’t have one. Teamwork will be your most important tool. Use it wisely.
