Top Nine Xbox 360 Exclusives 2011
There are tons of good and great cross-platform games on the Xbox 360, Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii. Gamers typically judge a console by the exclusive games published for the platform. While it’s difficult to say whether the Xbox 360 or Sony PS3 has the best exclusives, it’s a certainty that numerous good exclusives can be found on the Xbox 360. The following ten games are my picks for the “Top Nine Xbox 360 Exclusives” as of early 2011:
Saints Row is an obvious Grand Theft Auto knockoff, yet it’s better than GTA in many ways. Some simply dismissed the game as a “GTA clone” which was a big mistake for them. The game offered a deep and exciting sandbox experience. It’s full of missions and activities that keep you happy for quite a while. While it is like a clone on the surface, the unique story and activities in the game felt unique.
Prey is one of the most under-rated Xbox 360 games. It received average reviews from quite a few sites, which is beyond my understanding. Prey was an early FPS on the system and it shows at time, but the experience is unique and overflowing with quality. The game has things like altered gravity portals, cool alien weapons and “spirit walking” to keep you happy as a gamer.
Project Gotham Racing 4
Project Gotham Racing 4 is the best game of the series and as far as racing games go, it’s one of the best you will ever find on the Xbox 360. It’s basically an emotionally charged racing experience where everything in the game matters to you. This game has cities that are more vibrant and visually appealing than previous Project Gotham games. Basically everything from the series was improved with this title.
Fable III was a rich experience and one of the better Xbox 360 RPGs, but it fell a little short of Fable II. It’s unfortunate that the series actually went a little backwards. Even with the backwards movement, Fable III was an excellent game. Better combat and a more thoughtful story would have made this a better game.
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Condemened: Criminal Origins didn’t redefine survival-horror, but it certainly didn’t bring the genre backwards. The game was a complete rush, as it completely immersed you in a very interesting and scary story. If you’ve never played the game, you certainly owe it to yourself to check it out. It’s an adventure all gamers should experience.
Fable II wasn’t without drawbacks, but the fun gameplay, interesting story and realistic world made it one of the best Xbox 360 exclusives. Playing the game was certainly a pleasure. The combat was great, the humor was entertaining and the game was full of small details that pulled everything together. It’s one of those games where the time will pass at a fast rate without you realizing it.
Forza Motorsport 3
Forza 2 was a great experience that was hard to top, yet they somehow achieved near perfection with Forza Motorsport 3. There’s no other racing game on the market that even comes close to Forza 3. Forza offers less cars than what you’ll find with the Gran Turismo series, yet the experience is more realistic. I’d almost be willing to call this the greatest racing game ever made.
Mass Effect is a science fiction action-RPG that will simply blow your socks off with a fantastic story and fun gameplay. When it comes to sci-fi RPGs, Mass Effect is better than anything previously released. I’d even say it’s better than Knights of the Old Republic.
Just when you thought Halo couldn’t get much better, it did. Halo 3 was definitely over-rated, but Halo: Reach was definitely not. Halo: Reach is more challenging than Halo 3 and is a more complete experience. With new weapons, abilities and vehicles, it quickly becomes a more complete experience. The game wasn’t really a “breakthrough”, but it certainly perfected the game. It’s unfortunate that Bungie will not be working on the next Halo. I doubt anyone else could pull off a game that’s better.
